When Mayor Kelly Kirschner heard that television anchor Heidi Godman was leaving ABC 7 after a 22-year career there, he wanted to honor her in some way.
“It was a sad day for me,” he told a City Commission audience packed with Godman’s family, friends and former co-workers.
Kirschner proclaimed May 3 Heidi Godman Day.
“This is something we wanted to do to recognize your service to Sarasota,” he told Godman.
Dr. Washington Hill, a Sarasota OB/GYN, called her one of the most educational people in the city, because of the numerous health and medical stories and interviews she did over the years.
Godman said the proclamation was quite an honor.
“I will treasure this moment for my whole life,” she said.

- Why did Heidi leave? Where is she going? The news is not the same. Monica Yadav is also gone and so is Wendy Ross. I think Naomi means Ken Jefferson, whom I liked because he is an animal lover. These were people with professionalism and a good TV presence. Where did they go.

Sound of hope
The holiday season hasn’t officially started until our favorite bell ringers return to their posts.
Shoppers and residents were treated to some holiday harmonies by the Senior Friendship Centers’ group, the Second Wind Harmonica Players, in Downtown Sarasota.
