André Dupuis’ room is lined with medals, certificates and trophies from regattas and speech-and-debate tournaments from across the country. Despite his accomplishments, the Pine View junior is not boisterous or flashy, but sincere and modest.
Last June, André helped the Sarasota Crew Men’s Varsity 8 place second at the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. That night, he and his mother, Karla, rented a car and drove 350 miles to Indianapolis for the National Forensic League Speech and Debate Tournament.
In a matter of hours, André traded his rowing uniform for a suit and tie to compete in the Duo Interpretation category. André and his partner took a piece of literature, cut it down to 10 minutes and performed it to an audience.
André is part of the National Honor Society, the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the Spanish National Honor Society. He takes several AP classes and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
“I enjoy doing it. Time flies by, and I don’t recognize all the hard work I am putting in because it’s fun,” André says.
