To help downtown businesses deal with the loss of parking during major downtown construction projects, the Downtown Improvement District will hear from three valet-parking companies that may help solve the problem.

After the owners of the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre asked the DID to help it survive a loss of public parking, the board said it would consider paying for valet parking during much of the construction period, which is scheduled to run through December.

The Palm Avenue parking garage is being built on the Golden Apple’s parking lot, and the Five Points roundabout construction will take away more public parking spaces.

The DID board approved paying $35 per day to a valet company for two weeks, while it investigates further how valet-parking companies could assist several businesses during the construction period. Those companies may be invited to a DID meeting to present their case.
