The Sarasota Police Department warned North Trail residents with scooters or mopeds to secure their motorbikes after a series of thefts in the neighborhoods east of the North Trail, according to an April 1 news release.
Suspects break locks on scooters and wheel them away in the early morning hours, which owners can prevent by adding brake locks, alarms or keeping a motorbike in a garage or carport.
“The more layers of theft protection on the scooter, the less likely the scooter will be stolen,” said the release.
