A 78-year-old Nokomis man who was reported missing at 6 p.m. yesterday was found 416 miles away in Perry, Ga.
He was unharmed.
A silver alert was issued for James Gilbo after his wife called the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office to report that he drove away in their SUV. She said he was capable of driving, but she was afraid he would get lost in the dark because he suffers from dementia.
Gilbo drove north on Interstate 75 to the small town of Perry, which is 100 south of Atlanta.
A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said there was no indication that Gilbo had family or friends in Perry, Ga.
He was located with the help of a nationwide alert being issued on his license plate number.
