Upon a request from the clerk of courts, the city of Sarasota began over the weekend installing a small median at the Ringling Boulevard crosswalk in front of the Judge Lynn Silvertooth Judicial Center.
The purpose is to give pedestrians crossing that busy section of roadway a place to safely stop while waiting for traffic to pass.
The city plans to install bricks in the median. Work is expected to be complete next week. Total cost is $11,000.

- Traffic is supposed to stop if there is someone in the crosswalk. They shouldn't have to look for a safe haven in the middle of the crosswalk.
