A series of grant orientation workshops under the popular Sarasota County Neighborhood Grant Program will be held January through March at several Sarasota County locations. The program supports the county’s initiative to preserve and enhance the quality of life in county neighborhoods by providing matching grants to neighborhoods to help fund improvement projects.
Residents will learn how to apply for a neighborhood grant during the two-hour workshops. Attendance is required for grant applicants and grant applications are due April 23.
The grant workshops, which are free, will be held at the following dates and locations:
• 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 7 and 10 a.m. to noon March 14 at the Sarasota County Administration Center, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.
• 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library, 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd., Venice.
• 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 27 at the Venice Library, 300 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice.
• 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 3 at the North Port Library, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail
• 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Elsie Quirk Library, 100 W. Dearborn St., Englewood.
The Neighborhood Grant Program is a 50/50 matching program. Neighborhood groups can match the county grant funds with cash, volunteer hours, other grant sources, or by donations of materials and services. Grants are awarded for projects that provide a public benefit. The categories are: Improving safety, preserving character and value, building neighborhood leadership, and enhancing physical or environmental health.
To make a reservation for a workshop, send an email to vfrench@scgov.net or call 650-1292.
Space is limited and reservations are required. The reservation should include the applicant’s name, phone number and the location, date and time of the workshop. Applicants only need to attend one workshop. Dates, times and locations of workshops are subject to change. Applicants must provide notification of their intent to submit an application by Monday, April 2.
