The lowest bid Sarasota County received Jan. 23, for the Beach Road drainage improvements was $4.3 million, which is more than double the county’s $1.5 million estimate for the capital project.
Sarasota County Engineer Jim Harriott in an email to commissioners explained that staff would investigate the discrepancy, and issue a detailed report, the week of Jan. 28.
“Ouch!!!” said Sarasota County Commissioner Joe Barbetta in an email response to Harriott.
