With state troopers still at the scene, a Florida Highway Patrol representative confirmed that a vehicle collision with a pedestrian Wednesday morning at the southern end of Siesta Key has resulted in one fatality.
The representative, who declined to be named for this article, said that preliminary reports from troopers at the accident site — located at the intersection of Midnight Pass Road and Hidden Lagoon Road near Turtle Beach — confirmed that one person died at the scene. There are indications that another person was also transported for medical care, although that information could not be confirmed, the representative said.
Florida Highway Patrol accident records show that the incident was called in to emergency personnel at 9:26 a.m., and state troopers arrived 26 minutes later at 9:54 a.m. According to FHP reports, Midnight Pass Road is clear and open to traffic, although non-essential travel along the affected portion of the two-lane state road is discouraged.
According to FHP, information about the victim will not be released until all on-scene investigations are complete and next of kin have been notified.
