The city held the first of three weekly public workshops Jan. 21 to discuss the facade of the Palm Avenue parking garage.
City commissioners, in their role as members of the Community Redevelopment Agency, instructed designer Jonathan Parks Architect to create two alternative garage designs.
The city hired a designer last spring to create the original concept, which was used to solicit contractor bids.
Chris Gallagher, lead garage designer for Jonathan Parks Architect, told nearly two dozen residents in attendance that he wants to create a facade that does not look like a traditional parking garage.
“Boring isn’t delightful,” he said.
Gallagher will present two alternative designs at the next public workshop at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at City Hall.
“We want to get feedback on all (three designs),” he said.
Garage construction is set to begin April 1.
