Dumb criminal
12:43 p.m. — 400 block of John Ringling Boulevard. Petit Theft. A shoplifter thought she was pretty clever with her scheme to steal a pair of shorts, but her plan unraveled after a stupid move. The woman picked out a pair of shorts on a hanger to try on in a dressing room. She also took a pair of shorts into a corner of the store and shoved them in her purse. The woman went into the dressing room and came out with a used pair of shorts on the hanger and gave them to a store employee. She then headed toward the exit, but before she walked out the door, she asked for a job application and filled it out. The woman was told to come back a few days later for an interview. She did. Store employees invited someone else to be there for the interview — a police officer. The woman was arrested.
