Southeastern Guide Dogs invited the public inside for some puppy playtime Saturday, Sept. 22, as part of its weekly Puppy Love program. Children and their families were invited to play with puppies in training as well as older, more experienced guide dogs at the downtown location.

The EDC of Sarasota County held its annual meeting Friday, Sept. 21, at the Hyatt Regency. During the meeting, the EDC honored local businesses with its Legacy Awards. Jim Tollerton, owner and president of Professional Benefits in Sarasota, received the Clyde Nixon Business Leadership Award, and USF Sarasota-Manatee received the John J. Cox Community Partner of the Year Award. Guests also enjoyed a speech from Dale Brill, president of the Florida Chamber Foundation, who spoke of the changing nature of Florida’s economy and what business must do to adapt.

The Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota hosted a walk Saturday, Sept. 15, at Ed Smith Stadium, to raise awareness of the need for safe places for children to spend their time. The third annual walk included an appearance by the Orioles bird, and after the 3k walk, children were invited to play games on the field.
