The Salvation Army celebrated the opening of its new center for worship and service with a dedication ceremony Sunday, Oct. 7 at its Tuttle Avenue location. The ceremony included a performance by the divisional band, speeches by County Commissioner Carolyn Mason and selected scripture readings.

Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center of Sarasota hosted a walk Saturday, Oct. 6 in JD Hamel Park to raise awareness of domestic violence. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, so walkers donned purple shirts and stepped out to fight against the cycle of abuse.

Artists and art enthusiasts roamed among the aisles of hidden treasures at Sarasota Architectural Salvage, Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Going Vertical party. The event, which featured live chalk artists, mimes and food and drink, raised funds for the upcoming Chalk Festival artists and supplies. Guests celebrated the Going Vertical program as well as the work of artist MTO, whose work adorns the outside of the building.

Hundreds of guests braved the rain Thursday, October 4 at Big Cat Habitat to celebrate World Animal Day, an annual event that celebrates mankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom. Visitors enjoyed various animal demonstrations, lectures, food and drink and face painting.
