Ballroom dancers bring glitz to the Ritz

The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota proved the perfect venue for the Florida State DanceSport Championship, a six-day dance-off held Aug. 3 to Aug. 8 in the Ritz ballroom. Vendors filled the hallways with racks of dazzling costumes, shoes and accessories, as participants (young and old) pranced by bedecked in outfits rivaling those worn by “Dancing with the Stars” contestants. For those who traveled to Sarasota for the competition, the week was a blur of sequins and Viennese waltzes. Produced by Lakewood Ranch residents Larry and Dianne Dean, owners of Dance Consultants Unlimited, the annual state competition is the final and fourth leg in the Triple Crown DanceSport series.
