GALLERY AROUND THE CORNER: Dabbert Gallery
Date: August 18, 2010
by: Stephanie Hannum | Black Tie Editor
Local artists represented: Craig Rubadoux, Robert Baxter, William Jerdon, James Griffin, Beatrice del Perugia, Thyra Wexler, Richard Hager, Sarah Costello, Nancy Turner, Corinne Fallacaro and Nat Krate
The gallery’s hottest new artist: Nancy Turner, eloquent and compelling printmaker; Nat Krate, dramatic, luminous oils; and Corinne Fallacaro, richly pigmented pastels
The gallery’s most established artist: Rubadoux, who has paintings in the Guggenheim Museum, Atlanta’s High Museum, the American Embassy collection, in Madrid, and The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
What the gallery looks for in an artist: “Professional integrity coupled with unique high-quality artwork that emotionally engages collectors at all levels,” says gallery owner David Dabbert.
The kind of art found in their own home: “We have a modest collection of original fine art and crafts, many of which we acquired as trades with other artists,” says gallery owner Pat Dabbert.
Why they’re cut out for this business: “Prior to opening the gallery, we successfully made our living for 35 years selling our own artwork,” says Pat Dabbert, who taught art and art-history classes for 14 years after receiving her master’s degree in art.
What makes their job fulfilling: “As the artists’ representative, we have the privilege of helping exceptional artists exhibit and sell their work,” says David Dabbert. “As the gallery/art dealer, we bring together a high-quality original collection of artwork that attracts a diverse group of collectors. We also have the everyday joy of being surrounded by exhilarating color, compelling imagery and creative brilliance that is shared with enthusiastic viewers.”
Current show: “Summer Showcase” runs through Sept. 30. The exhibit features a diverse award-winning group of artists from Vero Beach, Calif., Sydney, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Quebec, Canada, and 11 Sarasota artists.
