+ Lots of love on ‘The Love Boat’
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Suncoast held its fourth annual Déjà Vu gala Saturday, April 27, at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. Chaired by Susan Brennan, this year’s gala was themed “The Love Boat,” based on the hit made-for-TV movie and TV show, which ran from 1977 through 1986.
While on the “cruise,” guests enjoyed bidding on the silent auction and watching performances by the Sailor Circus and Empire Ballroom dancers. Funds raised from the gala will benefit the one-on-one mentoring program, run by Big Brothers Big Sisters.

+ Kings of the kitchen
Who says men can’t cook? Some of Sarasota and Bradenton’s most prominent business and community men came together Sunday, April 28, at Longboat Key Club Harbourside to prepare some of their favorite recipes.
Chairwomen Beverly Bartner, Molly Schechter and Margaret Wise, along with Judi Gallagher, made sure that the event went off without a hitch and even garnered some new volunteers for next year’s Men Who Cook event.

Can you dig it?
Third- and fourth-grade students of Temple Beth Sholom had a chance to brush up on their paleontology skills last week while digging for faux dinosaur bones.
Sound of scholars
Local students Caleb Upton and Matthew Vaadi received some help for their upcoming studies to the tune of $1,000 each from the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys. The scholarships were made possible through the Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Both students plan to use the funds toward a career in music.
