Meadows to host professional women's doubles exhibition

The Meadows Country Club will host a professional women’s doubles tennis exhibition Dec. 5.
The match will feature Kveta Peschke, Sunitha Rao, Whitney Biles and Jackie Bohannon. Peschle was ranked No. 3 in the world in women’s doubles in 2008 and has been a U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Finalist and a two-time U.S. Open Doubles Finalist. She will partner with Bohannon, who is a teaching professional at Longboat Key Club and is currently ranked No. 1 in Florida in Women’s Open Singles.
The pair will face Rao and Biles. Rao, who competes in the Federation Cup for India, reached the round of 16 at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing while Biles is a former Women’s NCAA Doubles Champion and U.S. Hard Court Champion.
The exhibition, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Meadows Tennis Center, 3100 Longmeadow, Sarasota, is free and open to the public. For more information contact The Meadows Country Club Tennis Center at 378-5265 or visit www.meadowscc.org.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
