Years ago, Angela Stowe played golf on occasion, and her interest was sparked again when she and her husband, David, moved three years ago to Longboat Key. She finds it challenging but enjoys playing, especially at the Longboat Key Club and Resort.
Getting back in the game, did you start with lessons?
Yes, I did initially, but I find my husband, David, is my best constructive critic. He never stops making suggestions. I’m also left-handed, but I golf right-handed.
How often do you play and where?
I play three times a week with the Key Niners and David. I really enjoy Islandside, but the Blue Course at Harbourside is interesting.
Have you set any goals for yourself on the golf course?
Oh, yes! I want to break 100 — hopefully by next year.
Have there been any embarrassing moments or highlights in your play?
I’ve hit the ball into the street a couple of times. You can never tell where that ball is going. In a recent twilight mixer at the club, I felt I did quite well.
Do you feel you do better putting or teeing off?
Much better teeing off. Putting can really be frustrating.
Is there anything in particular to keep you going on the course?
Lots of Diet Coke, and I sometimes sneak in a bit of chocolate.
Has getting back on the course had an impact on your life?
I am a bit of an impatient person. Hitting the golf ball around has made me a little more patient. I have also met several new friends playing golf.
Are there any other golfers in your family?
Yes, my mother, Pauline Nichols. She’s 86 and lives at Plymouth Harbor. She golfed frequently until a couple of years ago.
