Longboat Island Chapel feasts on Italian fare

An Italian spaghetti dinner is a spring tradition at the Longboat Island Chapel. As usual, Dr. Peter Mattina was in charge of the sauce, made from his favorite recipe, and his wife, Janice, supervised the salad-making. Bobbie Banan was in charge of overall arrangements, and a crew of volunteers served the dinner. About 60 church members and guests attended the April 21 event.

David "Scotty" Dawson, of the U.S. Central Command, was the guest speaker April 20, at the Sandpipers men's group of All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church. A veteran Marine, Dawson joined the Central Command as a mobilized reservist in 2004. The CENTCOM area of responsibility covers 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Syria.

The Longboat Island Chapel was the setting for a traditional Easter egg hunt Sunday, April 4. About 40 youngsters participated, and it didn't taken them long to find the eggs filled with candy and begin sampling. Liz Yerkes organized the event and was assisted by church volunteers.
