Celebration of life gathering to be held for Claudia Fuller

A celebration of life gathering for 2008 Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key Citizen of the Year Claudia Fuller will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, 811 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota. The date coincides with what would have been Fuller’s 80th birthday. Fuller, 79, died Oct. 21. The celebration will feature a band, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Guests are invited to bring a memory of Fuller to share.
St. Mary’s praises annual picnic

St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church parishioners gathered for their annual picnic Dec. 12, at the church. Welcoming them as they arrived was the Rev. Gerry Finegan, and Rev. Emeritus Edward Pick was also in attendance. More than 300 parishioners feasted on catered barbecue chicken, plus a wide range of dishes contributed by members.
St. Mary church volunteers get Christmas cheer

The Rev. Gerry Finegan, of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church hosted a holiday reception for church volunteers Dec. 10, at the rectory. Approximately 90 people attended the festive occasion.
All Angels women's group holds seasonal sing-along

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
