The Longboat Key Club and Resort’s much-loved office dog, Cash, died of natural causes Friday, Dec. 16, at his home.
Cash came to the resort six years ago, Nov. 15, 2006, as one of two dogs the Sarasota Humane Society brought to an Employee Wellness Fair at the resort.
The Humane Society brings pets to fairs such as this in the hopes they might find a forever home with a new family. Having caught the attention of a number of the resort employees, they asked Michael Welly, the general manager of the resort, if he would consider having an office dog at the resort. Mr. Welly agreed, and the rest became history.
The Key Club adopted Cash from the Sarasota Humane Society, and he remained a loyal worker since that day, coming to work every week, bringing a touch of joy and helping to boost morale at the resort. Whether it was a tough meeting in Human Resources, a busy day greeting the Fed-Ex and UPS delivery men or checking in on the offices in accounting, Cash was always a willing candidate for a belly rub, a paw-shake or being an avid listener in a heart-to-heart conversation. He was the recipient of the Employee of the Month Award in 2007.
He will be long remembered for his big brown eyes, his best work-tie outfit and how he touched the lives of so many people on any given day.
There will be no formal service for Cash, but you can send a donation in his honor to Sarasota Humane Society.
