Barbara Lee Bendit “Bobbi” of Longboat Key, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died on Oct. 29. She was 80 years old.
Bendit was born on Sept. 11, 1931. She is survived by her husband, Erwin; a daughter, Cherie; a son, Jeff; three sisters, Dorothy, Gail and Jane; and three grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life Nov. 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Bendit Family Residence. Call or e-mail Cherie foor directions and to share a memory 726-0586 or wagmy_tail@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers, and with gratitude to the Tidewell Hospice Team, the family asks generous donations be made in Barbara’s honor.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
