Ilse ‘Ille’ Weyl Aff
Ilse “Ille” Weyl Aff, 86, of Longboat Key, died Oct. 27.
Born Dec. 6, 1922, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Mrs. Aff earned a degree in art and fashion design from the University of Frankfurt and was known for creating elegant couture designs.
In 1946, she met Charles Aff, whom she called her “Affchen.” Their life together included years of active military postings and Mr. Aff’s second career with Alston/Bird Law Firm, in Atlanta. They traveled the world together and retired on Longboat Key.
Mrs. Aff is remembered as a devoted wife, mother and volunteer.
Mrs. Aff was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and grandson, Joseph Coner Waters. Mrs. Affe is survived by her daughter, Ille Waters; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

John ‘Jack’ Egan
John “Jack” Egan, 80, of Longboat Key, died Oct. 27.
Born Oct. 5, 1929, in Tulsa, Okla., he graduated from the University of Tulsa, where he played for the Golden Hurricane football team.
Mr. Egan served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and worked for Warren Petroleum Co., in Tulsa and Louisville, Ky., before buying Foster’s Gas Inc., in 1961, in Leitchfield, Ky. He and his wife, Shirley, began spending winters on Longboat Key in 1980 and became full-time residents in 2002. He was a member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church.
Mr. Egan is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, John, of Orlando; daughter, Sherry Anderson, of Spartanburg, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral took place Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Christ the King Catholic Church, in Tulsa. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association, donate.americanheart.org; the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org; or the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
Sol Rosenberg
A celebration of life service for Sol Rosenberg, 87, of Longboat Key, who died Aug. 10, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, 1000 Blvd. of the Arts, Sarasota. Memorial donations can be made to the American Academy of Psychotherapists, 605 Poole Drive, Garner, N.C., 27529, for therapist scholarships to attend academy meetings.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
