Richard Arvid Hassel, of Longboat Key, died Oct. 21. He was 76 years old.
Born in 1936 in Chicago, Mr. Hassel was a first-generation Swedish-American. He was an attorney who served as general counsel and board member of Lifetouch Inc. for nearly 20 years. He is remembered for his generosity, humor and passion for life, people, hunting and sailing.
Mr. Hassel is survived by his wife, Eileen; son, Christopher; daughters, Elizabeth Hassel and Gretchen Lohmann; sister, Dolores Thompson; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass took place Friday, Oct. 26, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. Another memorial Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Pax Christi Catholic Church, in Eden Prairie, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, alsa.org; St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 4280 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key, Fla., 34228; or Pax Christi Catholic Church, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, Minn., 55347.
