Bernthal to conduct his first SAKLC services Sunday

The Rev. Mark Bernthal will conduct his first services at St. Armands Key Lutheran Church at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6. Bernthal will be installed as senior pastor of the church at special services Sunday, Oct. 18, succeeding the Rev. Eric Wogen, who retired in June 2008.
A Winter Haven native, Bernthal has served as pastor at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, in Haines City, since 1991, when the church was formally organized with 120 members.
Bernthal and his wife, Cyndi, have five children: Luke, Erin, Grace, Nicholas and Mary.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
