Jeanne Robbins Twaskas, of Longboat Key and formerly of Rahway, N.J., died July 4. She was 95.
Mrs. Twaskas was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Franklin Lakes, N.J., to John and Julia Robbins. She grew up in Elizabeth, N.J., with her sister, Mary Robbins, and her half-sisters, Ann and Kathryn Chezik, and her half-brother, William Chezik. She married Anthony Twaskas in 1940 and moved to Linden, N.J., where she gave birth to Robert and Judy.
She dabbled in real estate and the stock market and kept herself busy working various jobs. In later years, the Twaskases moved to Daytona Beach but later returned to New Jersey. She integrated the Linden Retired Men’s Club in 1989 and saw the creation of both a men and women’s club at Linden’s Gregorio Recreation Center. She moved in 1999 to Longboat Key and lived in a condo until January 2012, when she moved into an assisted-living facility, Alderman Oaks.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Anthony, and by her son, Robert.
She is survived by daughter, Judy Reskowk; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
There will be an internment Aug. 4, in Rahway, N.J.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
