The month of May marks a special time set aside by the Catholic Church to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus. Fittingly, St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church held its annual May crowning ceremony, in which a statue of Mary is crowned, on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9.
Andy Youngs, an active member of the women’s Guild and a volunteer in the church, was selected to crown the statue of Mary.
Pastor Emeritus Edward Pick led the parish through a series of hymns and special prayers honoring Mary. After the ceremony, Youngs placed a crown of blue-and-white flowers on the statue.
