Robert S. Bernard, of Longboat Key and formerly of Albany, N.Y., died Tuesday, April 24. He was 80.
Mr. Bernard was born in New York City and attended New York University. In 1964 he moved to the Albany, N.Y., area to begin his career in law. He founded the Law Firm of Bernard, Overton and Russell, which represented more than 40 hospitals and banks in upstate New York. He later became an administrative law judge in New York City, a position he held for more than five years. Mr. Bernard was also an arbitrator for the National Association of Security Dealers and the New York Stock Exchange.
Mr. Bernard was active in the community, serving leadership positions on many local boards. He was a member of numerous non-profit organizations.
He served as president of the Sanctuary Condominium Association on Longboat Key, a docent at the Ringling Museum and a trustee for the Longboat Key Firefighter Pension Board.
