Virginia F. Linscott, of Longboat Key, formerly of Scarsdale, N.Y., died March 20.
Mrs. Linscott was born in Milwaukee, and was the daughter to Marie Tolleson Frey and Frank A. Frey. She graduated from Milwaukee Downer Seminary and Connecticut College.
In 1943, she married Rolliston, a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and they moved throughout the South for the duration of World War II.
In 1951, the family moved to Scarsdale, N.Y., where she became active in the community, setting up the Scarsdale Junior League’s first Preschool Vision Screening Program. She served on the boards of the Scarsdale Junior League, and the Westchester Connecticut College Club. She was also a member of the Scarsdale Woman’s Club and the Altar Guild of the Church of St. Joseph of Armathea in Elmsford, N.Y.
Mrs. Linscott retired, with her husband, to Longboat Key in 1991 and joined the Sarasota Junior League. She loved to travel and enjoyed the theater, ballet, music and the arts.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rolliston W. She is survived by two sons; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Ringling Museum, the Sarasota Orchestra, or Sarasota Ballet of Florida.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
