Lucia Ellis Uihlein, of Longboat Key and formerly of Lake Bluff, Ill.. died Feb. 29. She was 94.
Mrs. Uihlein was born in Kansas City, Mo., and was reared in Washington, D.C., but spent her childhood summers on the family farm in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
In 1941, she married Edgar J. Uihlein Jr., of Chicago. After World War II, they moved to Lake Bluff, Ill., where they raised their five children.
Mrs. Uihlein enjoyed volunteering and serving on the boards of numerous Chicago charitable and cultural institutions. Travel was a passion of hers and many summers were spent abroad with her family. An avid and competitive tennis player, she continued to play well into her 80s. Her greatest joy was her family.
Mrs. Uihlein was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar.
She is survived by her five children, Edgar Uihlein, Richard Uihlein, Sally Rauch, Stephen Uihlein and Lucia Uihlein; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held April 28, at Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive.
