Hilton Hampton Brown, 68, of Longboat Key, died March 20, after a dignified adjustment to a slow, degenerative disease.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Brown was an active presence in Longbeach Village, especially in Bayou Hammock. His neighbors never doubted they could count on him for help and care.
Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Helen Brown Levine; his niece, Abigail Hampton Levine; his friends, Richard and Barbara Smith; and his caretakers, Donna Dhennin and Juanita Nay.
There will be no ceremony. Mr. Brown wished that his ashes be scattered. A plaque commemorating his life will be erected near his home on Pine Street.
Donations in his memory may be made to Bishop Animal Shelter of Manatee County.
