+ Rummage sale a success
Chairwoman Mary Elizabeth Carey said more than $25,000 was raised at the St. Mary, Star of the Sea Women’s Guild’s annual Royal Rummage sale, held March 6.
“This year’s rummage sale at St. Mary’s was the most successful ever,” she said.
The proceeds of the sale are distributed to various church and charitable programs as decided by Guild committee.
“Through the generosity of donors, we had an abundance of items for sale and some leftovers, which we are sharing,” Carey said.
A truckload of unsold furniture has been donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Bolts of fabric went to St. Armands Key Lutheran Church for its quilt-making program for needy people around the world.
Pregnancy Care in Venice received children’s clothes and toys. Books and DVDs were collected by a veterans organization.
Nearly 100 bags of clothing was given to The Stillpoint House of Prayer, in Bradenton, and St. Michael’s Church, in Wauchula.
And to assist Save Our Seabirds with its rummage sale March 27, six carloads of items went to them.
