Edward S. Hoyt, of Sarasota and Jacksonville, died March 4. He was 94.

Mr. Hoyt was born Nov. 13, 1917, in Havana, Ill., to Arthur and Florence Hoyt.

Mr. Hoyt was a lifelong resident of Sarasota, where he was an avid tennis player, fisherman, stamp collector, bridge player and world traveler. He also played saxophone and led his own big band, the Sophisticates. He was a member of All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church, for which he sang in the choir. He spent the last three years of his life in Jacksonville, to be close to family.

Mr. Hoyt was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army as a lieutenant colonel. He was a distinguished recipient of the Minute Man Medal, the highest award presented by the National Society Sons of the American Revolution. As a member of this organization, Mr. Hoyt served as state president and national treasurer.

He was a certified public accountant and used his business acumen to become assistant city manager and county administrator. He later served as an independent business consultant.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Hoyt.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Louise Redman; two nephews; six great nieces and nephews; and seven great-great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held March 17, at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church.
