Christ Church of LBK finds sanctuary in new building
Date: March 14, 2010

Three years ago, Christ Church of Longboat, Presbyterian discussed the possibility of building a new sanctuary.
Two years ago, land at 6400 Gulf of Mexico was purchased as a church site.
A year ago, a successful building campaign to raise money was held.
And on March 14, ground was broken for the new sanctuary. General contractor Bill Dooley, of DooleyMack Constructors, said site permits are in hand and work will start immediately. Required building permits are expected within six to eight weeks.
“A year from now, we look forward to walking through the front door,” said the Rev. Bruce Porter.
More than 150 congregation members traveled by chartered bus from the church’s present location at the Mediterranean Plaza to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
Making brief remarks at the ceremony were Van Neely, president of the Christ Church of Longboat Key Corp.; Dooley; Christ Church Building Committee Chairman Burt Borgelt; and former associate pastor, the Rev. Cleda Anderson.
The congregation was thanked for its dedication and participation in the capital campaign, which raised $1.9 million for the new building.
Peace River Presbytery Executive Presbyter Graham Hart said Christ Church is the 38th church in the Peace River Presbytery and a record-setting for its accomplishments.
