Francis Munz, of Longboat Key and formerly of Sarasota, Philadelphia and Richboro, Pa., died March 5. He was 88.
Mr. Munz was born March 16, 1923.
Mr. Munz was a sergeant in the U.S. Army military police during World War II, stationed in Luzon POW Camp, in Manila, Philippines. He was a Freemason for 50 years and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, and five brothers.
He is survived by daughter, Susan Rash; stepson, David Munz; and Olive MacLeod, his companion of 11 years.
Memorial donations in Mr. Munz’s name may be made to Sahib Shrine, 600 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
