Marjorie (Horton) Mathews of Longboat Key, died on Feb. 9. She was 83.
Ms. Mathews was born in Quincy, MA in 1928, graduated from North Quincy High School with the class of 1945, and graduated from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston where she majored in commercial art.
She and her husband John F. Mathews Jr. moved in 1953 to Amherst, MA where they bought a store on the village green, which became Mathews Shoes.
She and her husband became property owners on Longboat Key, FL in 1968, and for many years divided their time between their homes in Wilmington, VT and Longboat Key. In 2004 she moved back to Amherst to be closer to her children but still spent her winters on Longboat Key.
She was predeceased by her husband in 2000. She is survived by sister, Louise Ridge; daughter, Kathleen; sons, Michael and Edward; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Fisher Home, 1165 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA 01002.
