Dr. Robert M. Bretches of Bear Paw, North Carolina and Longboat Key died on Feb. 13. He was 80.
Dr. Bretches was a retired dentist and developer. He was a graduate of Emory University School of Dentistry and practiced for many years in DeKalb County, Georgia. He was also a Navy veteran who served during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley B. Bretches; daughters Pamela Bretches Dimmitt, Amy Bretches, and Gwen Bretches Worley; granddaughter, Maddie Dimmitt, and a host of lifelong friends, colleagues and extended family.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Atlanta. Memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 165 Hwy 64 W. Haysville, NC 28904 or Tidewell Hospice, 26th St. Bradenton, FL 34205.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
