Paul Vincent Dean, of Longboat Key, formerly of Pittsburgh and Atlanta, died Jan. 25. He was 80.
He graduated from St. Mary of the Mount High School and Duquesne University. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the Reserves, achieving the rank of captain. He also worked successfully at L.B. Foster Co. for 47 years and retired as a senior vice president in 2001.
Mr. Dean is survived by his daughter, Noreen Haggerty; four sons, Paul, Bill, Jay and Tim; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Toale Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
