William Kahn, of Overland Park, Kansas, and formerly of New York City and Longboat Key, died Feb. 1. He was 73.
Mr. Kahn was born March 8, 1938, in New Rochelle, N.Y. He attended Milwaukee Country Day School then attended Cornell University; he graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park. After graduation, Mr. Kahn sold real estate in New York for Feist & Feist. He then came to Longboat Key as co-owner of Far Horizons Resort.
He had a great sense of humor and will always be remembered for his storytelling and his trivia knowledge. The greatest loves of his life were his two children.
He is survived by his son, A.J. Kahn, and daughter, Louise Kahn.
A memorial visitation was held Feb. 3.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
