John Hopson Nisbet, 86, of Longboat Key, died Jan. 29.
A graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University, Mr. Nisbet was a newspaper editor and writer for the Washington Star in Washington, D.C.; the Bellows Falls Times in Bellows Falls, Vt; and the New Britain Herald in New Britain, Conn. In 1959, he built Tamarack Lodge, a resort hotel in Mount. Snow, Vt., which he owned and managed for 25 years, before retiring to Longboat Key.
Mr. Nisbet served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mariann B. Nisbet.
He is survived by his sons, John and Michael; daughter, Joan; and two granchildren.
A requiem Mass was held Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Church of the Redeemer. Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Redeemer and Christ the King Catholic Church, Sarasota.
