Charlotte Ann Lajos, 73, of Longboat Key, and formerly of Grand Island, N.Y., died Jan. 25.
Born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, she graduated in 1961, from Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing in Toronto. While working at the Wellesley Hospital as an R.N., she met Dr. Thomas Z. Lajos, whom she married in 1964. The couple moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where they raised their family.
While in Buffalo, Mrs. Lajos was a member of the Board of Trustees at the Calasanctius School and the Buffalo Seminary. She organized many fundraisers, including the annual Calasanctius Piarist Ball and the Buffalo Seminary Soiree auctions.
Mrs. Lajos is survived by her husband, Thomas; sister, Catherine Scott; daughters, Chery and Laura; and son, Paul.
A Mass was held Wednesday, Feb. 6, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
