The first lecture of Building Abrahamic Partnerships, a series of three lectures to develop communities of understanding, was held Jan. 23, at the Longboat Island Chapel.
The topic of the first lecture was “Understanding Islam.” Guest speaker was Imam Abdullah Antepll, associate director of Islamic Chaplaincy Program and Interfaith Relations at Hartford Seminary.
The lecture series was initiated by the Rev. Dan Maiden, of the Longboat Island Chapel, who is studying for his doctorate in interfaith religion at the seminary.
A luncheon of Mideastern foods was served.
The second lecture took place Jan. 25, at Temple Beth Israel, and featured Rabbi Aaron Koplin as the speaker.
The final lecture of the series will be Understanding Christianity, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Williamson, and will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church, 563 Bay Isles Road. Call 383-6491 for information.
