Lee Jaffe Swartz, 88, of Longboat Key, died Dec. 23.
Born in Pittsfield, Mass., Mrs. Swartz grew up in Troy, N.Y. During World War II, she worked for the Veterans Administration in Albany, N.Y.
In 1970, Mrs. Swartz resumed her career as a medical secretary at the Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y., and Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y. She retired in 1992 and moved to Longboat Key. There, she volunteered for the Jewish Family Services of Sarasota.
Mrs. Swartz is survived by her husband of 64 years, Abner; sons Matthew and Robert; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jewish Family Services of Sarasota.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
