Carl Meyers is the Longboat Key resident who vowed to ride 80 kilometers Dec. 3 on his bike to celebrate his 80th birthday.

And we can report that he did it!

Accompanied by his sons, Eric and Jon, the trio rode The Legacy Trail, the Venice Waterway Trail and finished the last kilometers on Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Would he do it again?

“Maybe but not this week,” he says.
