The long-awaited day was more than a year-and-a-half in the making. Saturday, Nov. 24, beer and wine sales opened at the Longboat Key Public Tennis Center.
So, did Longboaters’ cups overfloweth on the first day of alcohol sales?
Not exactly.
“We sold two beers,” said Kay Thayer, manager of the Tennis Center.
Still, for Thayer, the glass is half full. She believes that sales will pick up during tournaments this week and next week and feels excitement that the moment is finally here.
“It’s a convenience, and I think something that people will be able to enjoy,” she says.
