+ Temple Beth Israel celebrates veterans Shabbat
Temple Beth Israel held its annual veterans Shabbat service Friday, Nov. 20. Rabbi Jonathan Katz provided white carnations to identify the veterans in attendance, several of whom participated in the service, which was coordinated by Harold Ronson. A special-guest speaker was David Stone, post commander of Disabled American Veteran Post 97. The congregation, led by member Alvin Grossman and Social Action Committee Co-Chairwoman Kathy Brooks, has “adopted” that unit, helping with financial support and supplies.
Accompanying Stone were Gen Fowlers, commander of the D.A.V. Auxiliary, Auxiliary Senior Vice Commander Susan Banner and Lelia Taylor, retired U.S. Army. The oneg shabbat social following the service was sponsored by Harold and Kay Ronson; attendees expressed delight at and quickly consumed a sheet cake in the form of a flag.
