+ L’Ambiance hosts
Halloween double-header
J.B. Pinski’s birthday falls on Halloween, and his wife, Dee, successfully surprised him this year. Her invitation, allegedly from the Chicago mafia, invited 50-plus “mugs and molls” to a “hotsy totsy” party, and virtually all arrived dressed to kill. Pinski thought he was going to a party celebrating the birthday of his friend, Mike Esposito.
Upstairs on the eighth floor of L’Ambiance the same night, Renee Sheade and Harry Kartoz hosted friends for a Halloween supper, after which they took turns reading Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.” The prize for the best reader was a package of Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins — the rules were that guests could not vote for themselves, and the outcome was a tie.
