Longboat Key snowbird and author Ora Mendels has published a new novel, “Family Wars: A Novel of Modern Israel,” as an ebook available on Amazon.
The novel tells the story of three generations of an American/Israeli family from Nazi Germany to their escape to the United States to their struggle amid the turmoil of the young state of Israel.
Mendels was born in Jerusalem, grew up in England and Johannesburg, South Africa, and immigrated to the United States with her husband, Joseph, a research psychiatrist. They settled in Philadelphia with their three children.
Mendels was a newspaper reporter, feature writer and columnist in Cape Town and Johannesburg. She has published two novels, “Mandela’s Children” in 1987 and “A Taste for Treason” in 1990, which won the Atheneum Fiction Award.
