Saks Fifth Avenue and the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation Inc. have created a clever way to create awareness and raise funds for women’s cancers – a bra auction. This bra silent and live auction will take place at “Key to Cure: Support Us – A Bra Benefit,” on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Saks Fifth Avenue.
The Observer bra features photos and coverage of breast cancer awareness projects and events including photos from past “Key to the Cure” events. The participating bras are currently on display at Saks Fifth Avenue. The top 10 bras will be modeled in a live auction and the remaining bras will be sold in a silent auction at Key to the Cure. Voting on the bras will take place through Oct. 13 at Saks Fifth Avenue. Everyone is allowed one vote per day, so encourage your family and friends to vote too!
To purchase tickets to the Key to the Cure kick-off party, call 917-1286 or visit www.smhf.org.

Beach project wraps up
Approximately 100,000 cubic yards of sand was placed on the north end of the Key from North Shore Road to Broadway.

Mote Marine Laboratory’s Holly West washes a baby sea turtle that was brought in after a coyote attacked its nest July 10. Sea turtles face a variety of predators while they’re nesting, but Mote strives to help them by caring for any wounds, administering antibiotics and releasing them off shore when they’re strong enough.
Groin project costs come in under $2.5 million
The groins will be built next summer near the North Shore Road beach access to help hold sand in place on the north end that is swept off the Key
