One sure sign of fall on Longboat Key? No, it’s not cooler temperatures. It’s the end of turtle-nesting season.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, approximately 25 people attended the final evening nest opening of the season. The group included members of Girl Scout 381 who are working toward their turtle patch. Although turtle-nesting season is winding down, it’s still not time to leave your lights on at night. Nests remain on Longboat Key, and morning Longboat Key Turtle Watch patrols will spot check them daily and open any nests that hatch.
